pjh4.gif (18860 bytes) Shihan Pamela Hickey was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. She was successful, even in her pre-college academic endeavors, winning the American Legion Citizenship of School award in elementary school and the Junior Achievement National Secretary award in high school. Mrs. Hickey received her B.S. in Nursing at the University of Akron and has been employed as a registered nurse, licensed by the State of Ohio. She participated in postgraduate studies at Kent State University. Recently, Mrs. Hickey became a Red Cross First Aid Instructor.

As owner of Stow Kent Karate, Mrs. Hickey spends much time there. In addition, she is a Teacher's Aide at Indian Trail Elementary School one day a week, assists with Boy Scout activities, is on the church worship committee and plays organ for St. Stephen's Church in Stow. Mrs. Hickey also teaches piano, Red Cross First Aid classes, as well as provides secretarial services for USA Karate and has taught karate at Kent State University and the University of Akron.

Mrs. Hickey began studying martial arts in high school (judo) and has consistently studied for over 25 years. She currently holds the rank of 6th Dan Kwanmukan, studying with George Anderson. Other ranks she holds are Judo-USJA NiDan, 6th Dan Jujitsu, and 6th Dan Taekwondo. Mrs. Hickey has been the National Kata Champion and has either won or finished in the top three in any competition she entered, beating both men and women in kata. pjh3.gif (13457 bytes)

Mrs. Hickey currently resides in Stow, Ohio with her husband Patrick (7th Dan Kwanmukan), three children: Patrick 16, Thomas 14, and David 8, all holding ranks in karate; two cats and a dog. Among Mrs. Hickey's many interests are sewing (making many of her own clothes), quilting (samples adorn the walls of her home), gardening, reading and traveling. She has traveled to all states in the U.S. except Alaska and has been to France, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Mexico and Canada.
