Sensei Jose Antonio Caracena was born in Madrid in 1976. Military by profession, he has been serving in the Spanish air force for 17 years. He has participated in various missions abroad; Afghanistan, Senegal, Gabon etc.
He started in the study of Judo in September 1983, at the school "el trigal" in Fuenlabrada. From a young age he trained boxing with his father, who was an amateur boxer. In 1987 he began with the practice of Shotokan Karate.
In his adolescence he competed in various regional and national judo championships. Although the competition is a positive aspect, Sensei Caracena has always considered that Judo and Jujutsu have much deeper and more complete objectives.
He has studied and analyzed various systems and programs of Jujutsu, even in the 90s he started in the old school (koryu) Tenjin Shinyo ryu Jujutsu, father of Kodokan Judo. He is a strong defender of Judo as a form of budo, as a martial art and in his schools he teaches it in a traditional way, including all the lost and forgotten techniques that have undoubtedly always been part of the technical curriculum of Kodokan Judo such as Atemi, Kyusho, Kappo waza, Ashi kansetsu waza, Kubi kansetsu waza etc.
In his eagerness to continue investigating the work of Jigoro Kano, the teacher Caracena has been perfected in the study of ancient katas that were practiced in the beginnings of judo by Jigoro Kano or by the first generation of Kano students and that unfortunately today in days are in disuse, such as the Kime shiki, the tandoku renshu of the Seiryoku Zenyo Kokumin taiiku, Go no Kata, Torite no Kata, Mifune Soen Goshin Jutsu, Kazuo ito Goshin Jutsu, Renkoho, Joshi Goshinho, and some school katas Tenjin Shinyo Ryu Jujutsu. All this work is part of Kano Ryu Nihon Jujutsu and is possible thanks to the work in its two dojos with their students and instructors.
A great event for martial literature was the publication of the work "Judo Kyohon". This fact marked a before and after thanks to the great success of sales and the good reception in more than 25 countries. Since 1999, Sensei Caracena searched for this work by Jigoro Kano that had never left Japan, and knew its existence through a reference in a Japanese Judo book, in which this work written by the founder of Judo was mentioned. Sensei Caracena searched for several years this exclusive book, only written in ancient Japanese. After more than 15 years of searching, he finally found it and proceeded to translate it and publish it in 3 languages, the result was a great reception all over the world with thousands of copies sold in just a few months.
Thanks to this success, the possibility was opened of continuing to explore all the most unknown and unpublished aspects of the original Judo of Jigoro Kano and of Jujutsu in general. Judo Kyohon contributed everything necessary to publish a second book in 4 languages: "Judo Kodokan Atemi Waza".
