Master Timothy Stanciel of Greenwood, MS, USA started his martial arts career in 1995 when he was 13 years old. He began his training at Delta City Taekwondo. The instructors of the class were Willie Marble (deceased) and Sam Jernigan. Under Mr. Marble and Mr. Jernigan, I tested for the rank of Gold Belt. The class later dissolved and he continued my training with (at the time) Master D.J. Sias at Greenwood Taekwondo Warriors. He continued to rank under Master Sias for the remaining color belts. At Brown belt, he was tasked with instructing White belt students to prepare for their Gold belt exam. As a color belt, he competed in numerous Southern Martial Arts, Inc. (SMAC) tournaments. In those tournaments, he consistently won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies.
In June of 2000, heI tested for 1st degree Black Belt certified by Unified Taekwondo International. Months following the exam, he began my first semester at Mississippi State University. Unable to attend my normal class schedule, he continued training on my own. He also attended several local classes in Starkville, MS. Master Stanciel also competed in one tournament in Columbus, MS at New Hope High School. After finishing his first full year of college, heI returned to Greenwood, MS in May of 2001. In July of 2001, he was promoted to 2nd degree black belt.
He returned to Mississippi State University in August of 2001. He continued to train on his own and with others in the area. As school and work became more demanding, time to attend class became less and less. This began a 4 year gap in his training.
In 2005, he graduated college and returned to Greenwood to start my professional career. Once back in Greenwood, he started training for my 3rd degree exam. While training, he competed in the SMAC tournament series and participated in numerous demonstrations. I assisted with judging at the tournaments and participating on various rank test boards.
In November of 2005, he became the chief instructor of Belzoni Taekwondo.
In July of 2006, he tested for his 3rd degree black belt. Once he tested for 3rd degree, he became the chief assistant under Grandmaster Sias at Greenwood Taekwondo Warriors.
As he continued to train, compete, assist in tournaments, on test boards, teach, and participate in demos. In February of 2007, he ranked his first student (Joseph Thomas) to 1st degree black belt. In 2007, he won the overall tournament series grand championship for men's black belt. In October of 2008, I tested for the rank of 4th degree black belt. In 2010, he tested my second student to 1st degree black belt (Jarvis Riley) in 2010. In 2013, through vigorous training and dedication to the arts, he was promoted to 5th degree black belt Master Instructor.
Between 2007 - 2015 he assisted with the training and was the self-defense partners of many color belts and black belt students. He has participated in demonstrations in Greenwood, Belzoni, Mississippi Valley State University, Bay Springs, Greenville, and Pope, MS. He has completed instructional training in Tchula, MS and Cruger, MS where he advised new instructors. He has served as head adjudicator at color belt rank testing and at SMAC tournaments. He has also promoted many color belt students and students that have won overall series championships at the color belt and black belt level.
As he continued to assist Grandmaster Sias on a weekly basis and training, he was promoted to 6th degree black belt in 2016 and 7th degree black belt in 2020. He was also selected as a district commissioner for SMAC.
Sadly after the passing of Grandmaster Sias in 2024, who was chairman of the board for SMAC, Master Stanciel was voted as the Chairman of the Board for SMAC and SMACA (Southern Martial Arts Certification Association). He has been tasked with leading the board to promote tournaments and rank exams and certifications. He is also Chief Instructor of Greenwood Taekwondo Warriors in Greenwood, MS.
