Sensei Barush Torres has been training in Judo for almost 19 years, starting practice at Tenri Judo Dojo in Los Angeles, CA under Sensei Jiro Morishita on Oct. of the year 2001 until Sep. 2008. He then moved to Reno Nevada and started practicing at Reno Judo Club under Sensei Jack Turrentine. He has been teaching Judo at Reno Judo Club since 2010. He earned his Black Belt, 1st Degree - Shodan from Sensei Jack Turrentine in 2009. Presently, he holds the Black Belt, 3rd Degree - Sandan in Judo.
Sensei Torres became Reno Judo Club Head Instructor in 2015 continues to the present. He competed several times at the Mojica Judo Tournaments as well on the 2011 Mex-Games in Long Beach, CA. He stopped competing due to Judo-related injuries. Sensei Torres is currently a Director for the Nevada Judo Association; he is also the Non-Profit Agent and person in contact from our State Capital Carson City Nevada. He is one of the “new founders” of the “new” Nevada Judo Association (NJA) that is now led by President Sensei Maureen Braziel.
Sensei Torres has coached-representing IME on the Mexican Nationals for several years (2012-2016) taking Judokas (students) that have a dual-citizenship and having the opportunity to travel internationally to a friendly and safe competitions, in different places of Mexico. His favorite techniques (Tokui Waza) are Uchi Mata and Tomoe Nage.
As an Instructor, Sensei Torres’ classes focus on athletic conditioning, repetition of technique, and application of learned technique. He maintains a fun yet very structured learning environment ideal for both adults and children Judokas. With an eye for attention to detail, he is able to point out some important errors made by our Judokas and help them to recognize such mistakes in a shorter time and make improvements in their technique.
Sensei Torres way of teaching Judo in a logical and concise manner with an emphasis on fundamental skills, proper biomechanics, dynamic movement pattern, correct body position, situational reaction, and the balance between standing and ground techniques.
Using Judo focused and general physical preparation training for strength and endurance based on Judo training principles.
