Awarded US Army ROTC Scholarship.
Ranked top 10% of senior class.
College Years:
University of Florida (UF). Army ROTC Scholarship. Active in Karate and Judo clubs. Earned Shodan and Nidan in Wado Ryu Karate. Earned Nidan in Judo.
Occupation:
My company, NEWTON LAND DEVELOPMENT, INC., was formed in 2003 and specializes in the development and construction of professional office buildings and the management of the properties following their sale to others. NEWTON REAL ESTATE GROUP, LLC, a commercial real estate firm, was formed in 2006. The company has developed numerous office parks, a residential subdivision, and presently manages the construction/development process for others for a fee --- specializing in challenged or difficult situations, solving problems for owners so that facilities can be completed where others have failed. We also build custom homes.
Instructor Experience:
Resumed intense martial arts training at age 27, after 6 years of occasional training while in the U.S Army and working for national banks. Have earned dan rankings in numerous arts since then. Planned, organized and initiated an ongoing Martial Arts Training program at PROHEALTH & FITNESS CENTER, the largest health club in Melbourne Florida back in 1995. It was a mixed martial arts program with emphasis on Japanese Jujitsu, Karate and Judo. The program continued under my instruction for 16 years. During the last half of that time period, a separate entity named HARBOR CITY DOJO, INC. was formed to operate as a separate martial arts school outside and in parallel to the program at PROHEALTH, which only provided 3 hours of instruction weekly. Initially HARBOR CITY DOJO was formed to offer more class hours, early enough for gym members to bring their children, and to accommodate students under age 13.
During 2011, the program at PROHEALTH was closed to focus on our own dojo. HARBOR CITY DOJO went fully independent with programming offered 4 nights weekly, and additional mixed training on Saturdays. Separate classes were offered in Japanese Jujitsu, Judo and Sword, with classes for both children and adults. The entity, HARBOR CITY DOJO, has successfully existed ever since. More than 25 shodans have been awarded since inception.
In 2020, at the beginning of COVID, the sad decision was made to close it down and relinquish our leased facility. Sometimes when there are tough times, there are often better times ahead. I met a gentleman who had just started a well-located Hapkido School beachside. We trained together and soon I was invited to bring my group of students into the fold so that we could work together and somehow keep things open through COVID. Adding my inventory of mats and equipment to his new location, we have managed to keep things going and are now on the upswing. We have attracted a number of older, very skilled and active martial artists to the fold. In September this year, we promoted two 22-year-old new USAF Lieutenants (one being my son) to the rank of Shodan. We recently cross-ranked several other dan rank practitioners. I currently serve as “Chief Master” at the school, at the bequest of my Hapkido partner. We have approximately 30 active students, and 8 active yudansha as student/teachers.
Over the past 35 years, I have attended more than 50 training clinics and events, including the World’s Greatest Camp four times. And have hosted more than a dozen NATIONAL training events in jujitsu and self-defense. During my years of training in multiple martial arts, I have reached the following rank levels, certifications and accomplishments:
