Judith Velázquez-Alampi has practiced martial arts for over 50 years. In 1969, at the age of eight, she had her first judo lesson at the Aston Judo Club in Aston, Pennsylvania under Sensei John Tees. She would go on to train and attend numerous Judo promotional examinations under the United States Judo Federation and reach the rank of 1st Kyu Brown Belt - Ikkyu.
She graduated from Sun Valley High School in 1979 and immediately joined the United States Marine Corps and completed boot camp. Upon completing boot camp, she continued her military training in Fort McClellan Alabama to become a Military Police Officer. After graduating from Military Police School, she was retained by the Army Staff to instruct defensive tactics and survival swimming. As a reservist in the USMC, Judy returned home and worked as a correctional officer with the Delaware County Prison system. In 1981 she re-enlisted active duty in the Marines and went to Quantico, Virginia to join the Marine Corps Judo Team. Unfortunately, after a year of training with the team, the Marine Corps dismantled the Judo team in 1982.
She continued to participate in various activities and while stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii she pursued marathon running and was a member of the Marine Corps golf team. Upon receiving her honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, she pursued her education and received her paralegal certificate and eventually went on to work for the State of Delaware Family Court, as a Judicial Assistant. She was instrumental in implementing a structured security program; and instructed Courtroom personnel in proper security. In 1995, Judy started the next phase of her life as a Wilmington Police Officer; she was the oldest and only female in her academy class of which she became the class President. After a short three years on the department, Judy suffered injuries because of an on-duty automobile accident which ended her career as a police officer. Upon recovering from injuries, Judy eventually returned to Judo training under Shihan Thomas Little, 7th Degree Black Belt – Shichidan under the United States Judo Federation and promoted her to 1st Degree Black Belt - Shodan.
In 2006, Judy became a program director for Mahato Karate Association and certified instructor for Kobu Power which is a weighted high impact aerobics program based on moves from ancient samurai under founder Shihan Michael Graves. In 2007, Judy was promoted to her 2nd Degree Black Belt - Nidan by Sensei Richard “Dick” Hugh, 8th degree Black Belt- Hachidan, under the USJA, USJF, and USA Judo. In addition to Judo, Judy practiced in Tai Chi in Newark, Delaware.

She also teaches several Water Aerobic programs and several fitness formats at the Hockessin Athletic Club, in Hockessin, Delaware.
In 2012, Judy was promoted to 3rd Degree Black Belt – Sandan under the United States Traditional Kodokan Judo (USA-TKJ).
