Upon Dr. Wong’s retirement effective 1 January 2017, he named Shifu W Kraig Stephens as the new President of the Ching Yi Kung Fu Association.Shifu Stephens started his Ching Yi Kung Fu training in 1979 and currently holds the rank of 7th Degree Black Belt (Qi Duan) in the Ching Yi Kung Fu System.
He studied extensively under the guidance of Shifu Mikel Olsson, Ph.D., in Enumclaw, Washington and has received additional instruction from Founder Dr. Her Yue Wong and Shifu Stephen Machado. In 2004 he entered mentorship under Director Michael Alan Brown.
During the next twelve years, he was instrumental in the development of the revised Ching Yi Kung Fu Association and the Dao Li Jiao websites. He worked heavily with Dr. Wong and Michael Brown on the development of the Duan Ranking system.
Stephens is a Dao Li Shi (Scholar of the Way of Reason) in the Dao Li Jiao (DLJ) school of Daoism founded by Dr. Wong, serves as the last founding member of the Dao Li Jiao, inc.(DLJ) Board of Directors, is the current Registrar for the DLJ, and was one of the editors of Dr. Wong’s book, “Inside the Way of Reason.”
In 2007, Stephens opened up Old Warrior Horse Kung Fu Academy in Pasco, Washington. He has since expanded to teaching in Prosser, Richland, and Kennewick Washington and is now a full time teacher of the CYKFA system.
In addition to the CYKFA system training, he has had training in Chuan Fa and has trained in various styles of Kung Fu on three trips to China, to include two visits to the Shaolin Temple Training Center in Henan, China as well as Chen and Yang villages.
Stephens has extensive training in the military and the medical field. He also served in both the U.S. Air Force as a medic and the U.S. Army as a medic and a combat nurse. He also was the oldest recruit to have been selected to train in the Montana Highway Patrol Academy.
