Officer Kurt Speerbrecher has been in law enforcement since 1997. Over the years, he has worked in military, state, county, and federal law enforcement. He is currently a full-time uniformed LEO / Patrol Officer, and is a Control Tactics, Use of Force, Taser, OC, Baton, instructor, and a Field Training Officer (FTO) for his agency.
He fell in love with the martial arts as a child and started training in approximately 1984 as a young teen. Like many kids, he first started training Karate (Tang Soo Do). He was later introduced to Kajukenbo (Tum Pai method) by a friend and fell in love. He trained in Kajukenbo mostly through high school. He later discovered Hapkido and switched martial arts. He earned his Hapkido black belt in 1994. He achieved the rank of 5th Dan in in Hapkido in 2017.
In 2023, Officer Speerbrecher was certified as a 1st Dan in United States Taiho Jutsu (USTJ) by the United States Ju-Jitsu Federtion (USJJF).
Kurt discovered MMA & Krav Maga later in life (2012) and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) a few years later. Kurt currently train mostly BJJ but still teach Control Tactics and Combatives for his L.E. agency and some private students on the side.
