His main instructor was a Filipino that trained in judo while in Japan after second world war. One of his instructors was the 1969 heavy weight champion of the Philippines. Grand master Gorospe was tested and received his Shodan by a Japanese judoka from Kodokan few weeks before leaving for America.
He came to Tulsa and began his training under Grand Master Pious Yoon 1971 until he passed away in 1992. He and Grand Master Pious Yoon trained the Tulsa sheriffs in self-defense in the late eighties. Grand Master Gorospe took over as the head instructor of Yoons Judo and continued to teach there until 2004.
During the years that he was the head instructor of Yoons Judo they won the team state championship several times .
In 2004 he left Yoons Judo school and started Southside Judo and Jujitsu school, where he continues to teach as head instructor.
Grand master Gorospe created Gorospe Fighting system which has a self-defense focus, it is based on Judo throws. It is for street fighting art, with the main purpose to end the fight quickly and efficiently by slamming the opponent to the ground, either knocking them unconscious or debilitating them. It also involves striking, arm bars, choking. It down and dirty with no rules.
