Melissa Drake first discovered martial arts through the window of a karate class as a little girl. She wanted to join in, but hesitated when she realized she would be the only female in the class. She was too intimidated to try it out, and so she waited.
At 14 years old her path crossed with martial arts once more when she met a black belt who owned a karate and kung fu dojo in Navarre, OH. This time she decided to try it out, and she quickly realized that this was a lifelong journey. She spent 12 years at this dojo until it unfortunately closed down.
Shortly after this she began studying under Sensei Dave Chance at United States Martial Arts Center in Massillon, OH. At this school she was honored to receive her 2nd degree black belt in Judo and Ju Jitsu, and also became a competitive fighter.
Throughout her journey she has earned a gold medal in duos at a national competition alongside her partner Alison Waugh; a silver medal in grappling at the Florida World Championships in 2019; and a bronze medal in Ju-Jitsu at the Florida World Championships along with various other medals at local competitions.
