Dr. Valcik has been involved with Kodokan Judo since 1978 when he started with Dallas Judo Club through Plano Parks and Recreation. Soon after Dr. Valcik's introduction to Kodokan Judo, he then started training under the direction of Sensei Vincent Tamura. In 2005, Dr. Valcik began training under the direction of Sensei Jim Webb for both Kodokan Judo and Heike Ryu Jiu Jitsu. Currently Dr. Valcik is under the direction of both Sensei Jim Webb for Heike Ryu Jiu Jitsu and Sensei Matt Simmons for Kodokan Judo. Dr. Valcik currently is a member with the Texas Tech University Judo Club and is a life member of the United States Judo Association, the United States Ju Jitsu Federation and the United States Traditional Kodokan Judo association as well as being a Lifetime member of United States America Judo. Dr.Valcik is ranked as a Shodan in Kodokan Judo and is ranked as a Nidan in Heike Ryu Jujitsu.
Dr. Valcik has received his Associate of Arts degree in Political Science from Collin County Community College in 1994, a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Dallas in Interdisciplinary Studies in 1994, a Master’s in Public Affairs in 1996 and his Ph.D. in Public Affairs in 2005.
Dr. Valcik has worked for the City of Plano, City of Richardson, City of Duncanville Economic Development Corporation, City of McKinney, NORTEL Networks, the University of Texas at Dallas, West Virginia University, Central Washington University, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and most recently at Texas Tech University.
Dr. Valcik works in higher education administration in Institutional Research and Strategic Planning and in addition to his administrative positions, Dr. Valcik has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses, overseen graduate and undergraduate internships and student workers, served on dissertation committees and served on academic committees. As of 2022, Dr. Valcik has authored, co-authored, edited or co-edited 18 books and authored or co-authored 29 chapters, articles and book reviews on Public Administration, Geospatial Information Systems, Higher Education Administration, Technology in Public Administration, Homeland Security, Disaster Response and Emergency Management and Non-Profit Organizations. Dr. Valcik has filed provisional patents and software copyrights for software development projects and has received close to a million dollars throughout his career in contracts and grants.
Since 1989, Dr. Valcik has also competed in ISSF (Olympic) Pistol Competition. The following are the events Dr. Valcik competes in on a regular basis along with his Collegiate competition teams.
