Shihan Pamela J. Hickey has over 40 years of experience in the martial arts.
Pamela holds the following Dan grades and certifications:
8th Dan Kwanmukan Karate
8th Dan US Ju-Jitsu & Kwanmukan Jujitsu
Yoga ERYT 200 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher)
Mrs. Hickey began studying martial arts in high school (judo) and has consistently studied for over 40 years. She currently holds the rank of 8th Dan Kwanmukan, studying with Hanshi George Anderson. Other ranks she holds are Judo USJA Ni Dan, 8th Dan Jujitsu, and 8th Dan Taekwondo. Mrs. Hickey has been a National Kata Champion and has either won or finished in the top three in any competition she entered, beating both men and women. Shihan Hickey has been Inducted into the USA Karate Hall of Fame as an athlete and official.
Shihan Hickey was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. She was successful, even in her pre-college academic endeavors, winning the American Legion Citizenship of School award in elementary school and the Junior Achievement National Secretary award in high school. Mrs. Hickey received her B.S. in Nursing at the University of Akron and has been employed as a registered nurse. She participated in postgraduate studies at Kent State University and has become a 200 hour ERYT (experienced registered yoga teacher).
Mrs. Hickey owns and operates the Hickey Karate Center and Red Door Yoga. In addition, she is a professional musician playing piano and organ for St. Stephen's Church in Stow. Mrs. Hickey has also taught piano, Red Cross First Aid classes, as well as provides secretarial services for USA Karate. She has also taught karate and self-defense at both Kent State University and the University of Akron.
Among Mrs. Hickey's many interests are knitting, sewing (making many of her own clothes), quilting (samples adorn the walls of her home), gardening, reading and traveling. She has traveled to all states in the U.S. except Alaska and has been to England, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Mexico and Canada.
