Patrick M. Hickey has over 55 years experience in the Martial Arts.
Mr. Hickey holds the following Dan Grades:
9th Dan - Kwanmukan Karate,
9th Dan - US Ju-Jitsu & Kwanmukan Jujitsu,
8th Dan - Traditional Kodokan Judo.
Mr. Hickey is currently the Director of the Kwanmukan and President of the USA Karate Federation (USAKF). He has been an officer of USA Karate Federation since its incorporation (first under the National AAU Karate Committee, Inc. and later under the successor The USA Karate Federation), holding the positions of treasurer and national secretary. He is now the chairman of the USA Karate Senior Master’s Caucus under the current National Governing Body for Karate in the United States. He serves as the Chairman for the Technical Committee of United States Ju-Jitsu Federation (USJJF) and Vice President of USA Traditional Kodokan Judo (USA-TKJ).
Mr. Hickey in addition to holding both the treasurer and general secretary positions of the USA Karate Federation, was instrumental in establishing the referee certification program, the coaching certification program and the Junior Olympic karate program. During his time with USA Karate, he has served as the national rules chairman, national referee certification chairman, and has been the chief referee at a number National and League championships for USA Karate and the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union). Mr. Hickey serves as the representative to USA Karate from Northern Ohio, presiding over the local organizations. Patrick M. Hickey has served at one time on the United States Karate Association Board of Directors, heading the United States Karate Association Police Liaison Division. He is a 1981 Inductee in USA Karate Hall of Fame.
He trained with Mr. George E. Anderson of the Akron Center for Martial Arts until Mr. Anderson’s passing. Hanshi George Anderson was President of The USA Karate Federation, the President of the Pan American Union of Karate-do organizations, and the first Vice President of the World Karate Federation which is recognized as the World Governing Body for karate. As one of the original incorporators of USA Karate,
Mr. Hickey runs the Hickey Karate Center for the Martial Arts--a 250 member karate dojo. Mr. Hickey started training with Mr. Anderson as a graduate student at the University of Akron where he received a Masters Degree in Economics. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Thiel College.
He has had articles printed in Karate Kung Fu Illustrated and wrote articles for Karate Profiles magazine. He was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania on July 11, 1950.
He was an Eagle Scout and also received the American Legion of Citizenship award. Professionally, he is a property-casualty insurance specialist and Vice President at Love Insurance Agency and has received the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and is a Certified Insurance Councelor, the highest insurance designations in his field. He has had insurance articles printed in various publications.
When he finds time to relax, he enjoys sailing and playing the guitar. He coached soccer for his three boys, in addition to playing every Sunday on an adult soccer team. His wife, Pamela M. Hickey, is a 8th Dan Kwanmukan Black Belt and owns the Hickey Karate Center where they both teach the Martial Arts. Mr. and Mrs. Hickey have three boys who also studied karate. Patrick who is now an attorney, and Thomas who is an officer in the Army, and David who is a cardiac intensive care nurse, all black belts.
