Early Training
Peter King began training in 1967 with his father, who had been a wartime instructor in the Royal Air Force (RAF).
He commenced his Judo training in 1970 and recently celebrated 50 years in Judo.
He began his formal Jujutsu training in 1975 with Davies Sensei, at RAF Hendon in London.
Ryoi Shinto-ryu Jujutsu training
Peter commenced his Ryoi Shinto-ryu Jujutsu training under James Shortt Sensei in 1976. In 1985, he had the honour of demonstrating Jujutsu for His Imperial Highness (the then Crown Prince), now the Japanese Emperor Naruhito at the Anjinkai Festival in London. In 1992, he received a police bravery commendation, for “Disarming a violent criminal armed with a machete”. In 1997, he received Menkyo Kaiden (full licence), Hachidan (8th Dan) and Shihan title in Ryoi Shinto-ryu Jujutsu.
Peter now holds the following ranks from the ‘Zen Nihon Sogo Budo Renmei’ (ZNSBR - All Japan Budo Federation) in Kyoto, Japan:
The above are components of Ryoi Shinto-ryu Jujutsu, which has been referred to as a - “Sogo Bujutsu” (comprehensive martial art) by Oshimatsu (1983). In January 2019, he was appointed as the Kaicho (Chairman) of the Ryoi Shintokai (the organisation for the preservation and promotion of Ryoi Shinto-ryu Jujutsu). Then in August 2020, he was also appointed as the Shihanke (Chief Instructor).
He has taught Ryoi Shinto-ryu Jujutsu classes, courses / seminars in:
Bujinkan Dojo Training
In 1983 Peter began his training in the Bujinkan Dojo of Hatsumi Masaaki Soke in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
He now holds the following Bujinkan ranks from Hatsumi Soke:

Japanese Traditional Martial Arts Medicine
Peter King also studied Amatsu Tatara medicine (which was historically taught alongside Japanese martial arts) under Hatsumi Soke and is unique in having received the following teaching and transmission credentials:
Peter King is the author of ‘Life Secrets of the Amatsu Tatara’ published in 2020, with a Spanish edition being due for publication in 2021.
Has taught regular courses / seminars and, or training programmes in:
Sports Science and the academic studies in Japanese Budo
In 1987, Peter became a Fellow of the British Association for Physical Training (FBAPT).
In 1999, he gained a MA (Master's degree) in 'Sports Science and Japanese Budo Studies' from Middlesex University, London.
He is both a Fellow and Faculty Member of the Institute of Martial Arts and Sciences (IMAS).
He is a member of the ‘Nihon Budo Gakkai’ (Japanese Academy of Budo), which is the Japanese National Budo Research body.
Professional life
Peter King is a U.K.:
He received his Postgraduate MSc. in Osteopathy from the University of Greenwich in London.
He was a former Clinic Tutor, Lecturer and Research Supervisor on BSc. and MSc. programmes at Surrey Institute of Osteopathic Medicine (SIOM), U.K. He was also a former Research Supervisor for the MSc. programme at International College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM), Milan, Italy. Since 2009, he has been the director of The King Clinic in Epsom, Surrey, U.K.
In 2010, he was granted membership as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine in London.

- Judan Chi-gyo Menkyo (10th dan – ‘Earth Level’ Licence) - Happō Biken (eight methods - secret sword art).
- Judan Ku-gyo Menkyo (10th dan – ‘Air Level’ licence) i.e. Kaiden. This is the highest rank in the Bujinkan.
- Bujinkan Dojo Dai Shihan Menkyo (Senior Master Teacher Licence). This is the highest teaching title in the Bujinkan

Japanese Traditional Martial Arts Medicine
