Hanshi Richard Fike has over 45 years experience in the Martial Arts.
Hanshi Fike has been married for 49 years to his lovely wife Linda. He has three children and seven grandchildren, and is proud to acknowledge his Christian faith. He began his martial arts career in 1967 after witnessing his older brother demonstrate Karate while home on leave with the U.S. Air Force. While still in school, he immediately searched out every martial arts teacher he could find and has never looked back. Currently he is the Soke (founder) of Sanchi-Ryu Karate (based upon his combative program* he developed on active duty) and Director of the Madison Combined Martial Arts located in Madison, Ohio.
He holds senior black belt ranks in Karate, Judo and Jujitsu. He is a state licensed instructor with the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy, and is the Director of the “Close Quarter Combat Skills Institute” providing advanced training to “At Risk” individuals and organizations such as the U.S. Secret Service Special Operations Division, U.S. Intelligence Agencies, and U.S. Military Special Operations Special Mission Units. He has produced three training videos in advanced close quarter combat “Tactical Rope Fighting 1 & 2” and “Knife Fighting for Survival”. He is a published author – “How to Keep from Being Robbed, Raped & Ripped Off” 1984, and “Staying Alive” 1994 both with Acropolis Books Ltd. He also wrote a regular column for “Karate Kung Fu Illustrated” known as the ”Concrete Jungle”. Hanshi Fike is a retired from the U.S. Army following a 26 year career as a Special Operations Officer, was a former civilian Special Agent for a U.S. Department of Defense, and in his spare time he is a professional Stunt Coordinator for feature film and television working on such films as Marvel Studios “Avengers” and “Captain American – Winter Soldier”.
UNIQUE TRAINING:
*While assigned to Fort Bragg, NC, Fike specialized in Counterterrorism operations worldwide; however in addition, he was tasked to develop an effective “Direct Action” hand-to-hand combat program for the special forces community. His program evolved into three specific offensive fighting methods. Following extensive research with multiple civilian and Army neurologists, they were able to identify the most effective impact points on the human body which in essence, and with a fair amount of accuracy predict the effectiveness of their strikes. This would and did build confidence in the soldiers ability to face and defeat an enemy. His program was later defined by commanders as a “scientific approach to battlefield encounters”. His three methods of fighting included the knife, para-cord and highly specialized hand-to-hand skills. Almost as important to fighting skills, each soldier studied the “Psychology of Combat” in order to emotionally survive life and death missions. Following extensive test and evaluation, his close quarter program was adopted by special mission units of the Army, Navy and Marine Corps, and continues to be instructed to elite soldiers and federal agencies today. He is the originator of the “E3” concept (Evaluate, Engage & Execute) in support of Situational Awareness protocols offering extremely aggressive combat tested removal techniques.
The military’s philosophies of SPEED, SURPRISE & VIOLENTS OF ATTACK has been proven successful in conventional force operations; however, Fike discovered that in small unit tactics, SURPRISE is priority. According to Fike, not everyone is fast or can utilize speed effectively; but everyone can be sneaky, and use surprise to their advantage. That is how a small committed team of motivated operatives can engage and defeat a much bigger adversary. Hanshi Fike continues to teach these programs to the appropriate audiences at seminars across the country.
