Rick Kamp is a highly accomplished martial artist with over fifty-four years of experience in various disciplines. His interest in the martial arts began during his high school years, where he lettered in several sports including wrestling. In college he played intramural football and baseball and started boxing at his local YMCA.
Rick’s formal martial arts training began when he met Mr. Ichiro Takahata while working at a bar located in Hilton Hotel in OKC where he worked. He helped Rick with a confrontation that had developed in the bar that day. After spending some time talking they became friends and Sensei Takahata decided to mentor him and train him in his system of Karate / Kung Fu – Shoreikan Go Ju Ryu, where Rick earned his first Black Belt.
After moving to Tulsa in 1972, after looking for a Go Ju dojo without success he met Mr. Pius Yoon, and began training with him in Tae Kwon Do and Judo. During this time he also trained in an instructor associated with Sensei Yoon in Aikido and Kobudo, learning several different weapons including, Bokken, Bo, Escrima Sticks, Tanto and Sai.
When Sensei Yoon passed away in 1990, Rick became friends with Sensei Luis Gorospe, who took over the school and became the head master. Ricky attended Judo and Ju Jitsu regularly and introduced his son Mason to the martial arts through Judo. Later on, in 2002 Sensei Gorospe opened his own school and asked Rick to join him as an associate instructor, where he continues to teach a great mis of individuals from six-year-olds to over sixty years of age.
Ricky has achieved impressive ranks in various martial arts disciplines over the years.
His ranks include -
Tae Kwon Do – Rokudan (6th Dan) – December 2016
Gorospe Fighting System (GFS Jujitsu & Judo System) – Godan (5th Dan) – December 2020
Japanese Jujitsu - Yondan (4th Dan) – June 2017
Judo - Yondan (4th Dan) – September 2022
