Professor Scott Altgilbers began his martial arts journey during his time in the military. His first Instructor was Dr. Allen Charles. Scott earned his Sodan in Judo and Jiu Jitsu, and later his Nidan in Jiu Jitsu from Dr. Charles. Later, under E L Beshimentob Mayfield, Scott earned his Nidan in Judo. Scott earned his Blue & Purple Belts in Jiu Jitsu from Professor Rafael Jovet-Ramos. He earned his Brown & Black Belts in Jiu Jitsu from Professor JW Wright.
In the Fall of 2023, Scott earned his 3rd Degree in United States Ju-Jitsu ® from the United States Ju-Jitsu Federation (USJJF).
Professor Altgilbers is the main instructor at Midwest Jiu-Jitsu Academy. He served eight years in the U.S. Army and did two tours overseas. While deployed in Afghanistan, his duties included training soldiers in the Army Combatives Program and teaching hand-to-hand combat to military personnel.
Once stateside, he continued to train soldiers in the Combatives, while also conducting women’s self-defense courses for civilians. Professor Scott shares his passion for jiu-jitsu and judo with his students by providing feedback and encouragement to unlock their potential. By encouraging his students to develop their skills through training and tournament competition, Professor Scott helps foster camaraderie within the team.
Professor Altgilbers believes a student’s family and support systems are vital to his or her success.
