Shaun Ward
Life Member - United States Ju-Jitsu Federation (USJJF) ®
Life Member - United States Martial Arts Federation (USMAF) tm
Shaun Ward, DM was first introduced to martial arts by his cousin/big brother, Reginald McCluney, who is a 5th Dan in Karate and law enforcement professional in Newark, New Jersey at a young age. Due to his family moving from the area, Shaun could no longer attend the training but always continued to show interest in studying the arts.
In 2006, Dr. Ward was reintroduced to the idea of studying martial arts and knowing this time he would remain there much longer than before because he pursued a career in law enforcement in Asheville, North Carolina. A fellow officer recommended Ward to visit the Center for Martial Arts USA to speak with a gentleman by the name of Carl Wilcox. Shaun walked into that dojo and from that moment on he became a student of Hanshi Carl Wilcox.
While under the direction of Hanshi Carl Wilcox, Dr. Ward was introduced to Peter Freer in which he began to train in mixed martial arts as well. Although he was unable to continue his martial art journey when he was first introduced at a young age, he certainly has made up for it since meeting Wilcox who has been a mentor to him since. He has been fortunate to meet and train with other highly esteemed martial artists under Wilcox's direction.
As a law enforcement professional, Dr. Ward is a National Institute of Justice LEADS Scholar, and a Police Fellow with the National Police Foundation. He is a guest instructor with the FBI National Academy and an author of academic and industry articles.
