Shaunton Davis is the head instructor of Shindano Martial Arts. He has spent 29 years studying judo, jujitsu, and self-defense under Sensei Bruce Landers of the Bomani Martial Arts Federation. Sensei Davis started training in 1994 when his Step-Father enrolled in jujitsu classes at Considine Recreational Center in Detroit Michigan. He quickly excelled in the in jujitsu reaching the rank of Sankyu by the age of 15. Shaunton was required to maintain a good academic standing during his training at the Bomani Federation. Martial arts gave Him the confident, and focus to excel in school and competitions.
Shaunton Davis was promoted to Shodan in jujitsu at the age of 17, and would receive his black in judo one year later. Sensei Davis went on to compete nationally in Judo, grappling and MMA. He began to concentrate his training and teaching on community-based self-defense. Several years later Shaunton Davis used the experience he gained studying the jujitsu arts to form Shindano Martial Arts. He continues to expand his knowledge by teaching in the Metro-Detroit Area.
The Martial Arts gave Shaunton Davis the ability to pursue his passion in the field of architecture and design. In 2009 he graduated with a B.S. in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University, and is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Architecture at the Academy of Art University. Shaunton Davis is a Construction Project Manager at General Motors working on sustainable building projects for the company. During the evenings he teaches judo and jujitsu to the community at a local Metro-Detroit Recreational Center.
Shaunton Davis believes Martial Arts; particularly jujitsu can give you the confidence and focus to succeed at anything in life. My focus is improving student’s physical and metal development while maintaining and or improving Shindano / USA Jujitsu’s technical requirements. He is currently working with other martial arts school’s in the metro Detroit area to add jujitsu to their curriculums. I want to help spread Jujitsu in southeast Michigan.
